Vietnam’s 5-day National Day holiday in 2026 may affect e-visa processing
If you’re planning to travel to Vietnam around this period, it is important to arrange your visa well in advance. Because the Vietnam Immigration Department follows the standard government working calendar, the holiday can slow down the processing of new visa applications.

Vietnamese National Day will be celebrated from August 29 to September 2, 2026
1. Apply for a Vietnam e-visa before the holiday
For most travelers who need a visa, the Vietnam e-visa is the simplest option. According to the official immigration portal, an e-visa can be issued for up to 90 days, with either single or multiple entry.
Standard processing takes 3-5 working days from the date your application and payment are submitted. That said, 3 working days isn’t a guarantee – and it’s especially unreliable when a public holiday cuts into the number of working days available for processing.
If you plan to enter Vietnam around September 2, don’t leave your application until the last few days before your trip.
Need help expediting your pending evisa application during the National Day holiday?
The expedited service will help you get the e-visa by 18:00 Vietnam time during the holiday from August 29 to September 2
Select Apply for emergency visa button below
In the “Processing time” item, select Overtime service
Fill out the visa application form and upload the photos
Make payment using credit card, PayPal, Wise or bank transfer
Receive the visa result before 18:00 Vietnam time on the holiday
2. Submit your application as early as possible
The safest approach is to apply well ahead of the National Day holiday — ideally one to two weeks in advance.
When filling out the application, double-check that:
- Your name and other personal details exactly match your passport
- Your passport number and date of birth are correct
- Your portrait photo meets the official requirements
- Your passport bio page has been uploaded correctly
- Your intended entry date is correct
- Your temporary residential address in Vietnam is provided
Note that the official application system requires you to upload your passport data page and a portrait photo before you pay the e-visa fee.
3. What if you apply during the National Day holiday?
If you submit your e-visa application during the holiday period itself, expect processing to take longer than the standard 3 working days as public holidays and non-working days simply aren’t counted toward that turnaround time.
Travelers who’ve already booked flights for the National Day period should avoid relying on a last-minute application.
If your application is still pending, you can check its status through the official Vietnam e-visa system using your registration code, email address, date of birth, and other required information.

4. Check your visa before flying
Don’t assume your visa is approved just because you’ve submitted the application. Before you travel to Vietnam, confirm that:
- Your e-visa has been approved
- Your name and passport number are correct
- The visa’s validity period covers your intended arrival date
- Your visa type — single or multiple entry — matches your travel plans
If there’s an error anywhere on the approved visa, it’s far better to catch it now than at the airport.
5. Can you enter Vietnam on Vietnamese National Day holiday?
Yes. The National Day holiday doesn’t mean Vietnam’s international airports and border checkpoints will be closed to foreign travelers. The main concern during the holiday period is visa processing and other immigration-related administrative works, not entry procedures itself.
So as long as you already hold a valid Vietnam e-visa covering your intended entry date and chosen checkpoint, you’re free to travel according to the conditions stated on your visa.
