Vietnam to introduce 2 new visas for digital technology professionals
Vietnam will introduce 2 new long-term visa categories designed to attract highly skilled foreign professionals in the digital technology sector. The new visas will come into effect on July 1 this year, allowing eligible foreigners and their families to reside in Vietnam for up to five years.
The announcement follows the passage of Law No. 118/2025/QH15 by Vietnam’s National Assembly. This law amends 10 existing laws on security and public order and includes provisions to introduce new visa categories, according to Vietnam’s government portal.
UĐ1 visa for digital technology professionals
The UĐ1 visa will be granted to highly skilled digital technology professionals and other foreign individuals who qualify for preferential treatment under laws and resolutions issued by the National Assembly and its Standing Committee. This visa is intended to support Vietnam’s strategy to attract global talent in key digital and technological fields.
Holders of the UĐ1 visa will be permitted to live and work in Vietnam for up to 5 years, subject to specific eligibility criteria outlined by the government.
UĐ2 visa for family members
The second visa category, UĐ2, will be issued to the immediate family members of UĐ1 visa holders. This includes spouses and children under 18, allowing families to reside together in Vietnam for the same extended period.
Strengthening Vietnam’s digital workforce
Vietnamese authorities stated that the introduction of these visas is expected to play a significant role in attracting high-quality human resources, particularly in the digital technology sector. The move aligns with Vietnam’s broader efforts to support innovation, digital transformation, and long-term economic development.
Further implementation details, including application procedures and eligibility requirements, are expected to be announced closer to the effective date.
