How do Maldivian citizens apply for a Vietnam visa?
From 15 August 2023, all foreign nationals – including citizens of the Maldives – are eligible to apply for a Vietnam visa allowing a stay of up to 90 days, with either single or multiple entries.
To apply for a Vietnam visa, Maldivian citizens should prepare the following:
- A high-quality scanned copy of their passport;
- A recent portrait photo (taken within the last 6 months);
- A credit or debit card enabled for online payment.
Below are the steps to apply for a visa for Vietnam with a high success rate:
Go online the visa application form and select the appropriated visa type and processing time;
Fill in the visa application form with required information and upload the photo of your passport and portrait photo mentioned above;
Pay the visa application and rush service fee (if any) and wait for visa approval after a few hours or 1 – 2 working days, as you selected when placing your order;
A completed visa will be sent to your email or WhatsApp, you just need to print out the visa, bring with your passport to enter Vietnam via airports, land ports and seaports.
Why does the Vietnam visa application for Maldivian citizens take longer?
There are several reasons why the visa processing time for Maldivian citizens may be delayed. Common issues include:
1. The photos are incorrect: If the scanned copy of your passport is blurry or unclear, the application may be rejected or require amendment. Similarly, if your portrait photo was taken more than 6 months ago, or if you are wearing glasses or a hat in the image, it will not be accepted.
2. The visa information is incorrect: All details on your visa application — including your full name, date of birth, passport number, and passport expiry date — must exactly match the information shown on your passport. Any discrepancy will require an amendment to your application and may delay processing.
3. Parents sharing visas with children: If a child has their own passport, they must apply for a separate visa just like an adult. Parents sometimes mistakenly include their child’s visa in their own visa application, which can result in the child’s visa being denied.
4. The visa application is submited during Vietnamese public holiday: Every year, Vietnam observes several national holidays during which the Vietnam Immigration Department is closed, sometimes for a week or longer. During these periods, all visa applications are placed on hold, and no visas are issued. To avoid delays, you should submit your visa application at least one week before major Vietnamese holidays, especially the Tet holiday (Lunar New Year), to ensure you receive your visa before the offices close.
