Vietnam visa waiver for Indonesian citizens and how to enter Vietnam visa free?

The citizens of Indonesia are exempted from a Vietnam visa for 30 days. However, travellers must ensure that their passport is valid for at least 6 months. In certain cases, a return flight ticket may also be required to demonstrate intent to leave the country within 30 days.

Required documents

As citizens of Indonesia don’t need a visa for Vietnam with a maximum stay of 30 days, travellers just need a valid passport and a round-trip air ticket to enter the country.

How to travel to Vietnam with a visa exemption?

If Indonesian citizens plan to stay in Vietnam for less than 20 days, they just need to present a valid passport and a round-trip air ticket to board the plane. At entry points (airports, land ports, or seaports), they will be required to present the necessary documents, once again at passport control upon entry into Vietnam.
If they stay longer than 30 days, a Vietnam visa is required.

The issues that the Indonesian travellers may encounter when entering Vietnam

Although Indonesian travellers are not required to obtain a visa to enter Vietnam, they may still encounter unforeseen issues. One common concern is that their passport validity is not long enough (the passport validity must be at least 6 months from the date of entry). Therefore, Indonesian visitors are strongly advised to check their passports’ expiration dates to ensure it meets the entry requirements. In cases where the passport is valid for less than 6 months but more than 1 month from the date of exit, travellers may apply for a rush Vietnam e-visa, which can allow them to enter Vietnam safely.
A visa-free extension for Indonesian citizens is currently not available in Vietnam. To stay longer, you must leave the country for a visa run and re-enter to receive a new visa exemption period.
