Vietnam visa for Tunisian citizens – How to apply for a Vietnam visa from the North African countries?

Tunisia, a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa, is not included in Vietnam’s visa exemption list. Therefore, Tunisian citizens are required to obtain a visa before travelling to Vietnam, whether for tourism or business purposes.

How to apply for a Vietnam visa for Tunisian citizens?

  • Apply for a Vietnam e-visa
    From August 15, 2023, citizens of all nationalities, including Tunisians, are eligible to apply for a Vietnam e-visa. This convenient online visa allows Tunisian travellers to visit Vietnam for a maximum of 90 days.
    Vietnam e-visa is a completed visa issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department. It is a PDF document downloaded from the official government website that helps you stay in Vietnam for up to 90 days.
  • Apply for Vietnam visa on arrival
    Visa on arrival (VOA) is a type of visa issued to foreign travellers entering Vietnam by air. It requires a pre-arranged visa approval letter issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department. This approval letter allows travellers to obtain a visa stamp upon arrival at one of Vietnam’s international airports.

Both the e-visa and visa on arrival are convenient ways to obtain a visa for Vietnam. However, while Tunisian applicants can apply for a Vietnam e-visa directly on the official government website, they cannot expedite a visa on arrival without assistance from a licensed Vietnam visa agency.

Requirements for Vietnam e-visa application

To apply for a Vietnam e-visa through the official government website, you will need to prepare the following documents and materials:

  • Passport: Must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Vietnam or at least 1 month beyond your planned exit date and contain at least one blank page for visa stamping;
  • Scan copy of passport: Provide a clear, full-page scan of the passport data page (bio page) showing all details clearly, including your photo, personal information, and passport number;
  • Recent portrait photo: A passport-sized photo taken within the last 6 months on a plain light background. The photo must clearly show your full face, with no hats or glasses obscuring your facial features. It is not allowed to crop a portrait photo from the scan copy of a passport and use it in the visa application;
  • Trip information: Include the intended entry and exit dates, port of entry and exit and the address of your planned accommodation in Vietnam.
  • Personal information: You must provide your current residential address and an active telephone number in your home country. Additionally, include the name, relationship, address, and contact number of a person to be reached in case of emergency;
  • Valid payment method: A credit or debit card that supports international online payments for the visa fee.

Important things to know before applying for a Vietnam visa

The application process is straightforward; however, it is important to keep in mind several key points to avoid delays or having your application stuck “in processing” at the last minute:

1. Review your visa application

Check your visa application carefully to ensure all information exactly matches your passport. Even minor errors may result in your application being returned for amendment, which can delay processing and leave your visa stuck in ‘in processing’ status as your travel date approaches.

2. Provide the accurate and truthful information

All visa information must be accurate, including your personal details, contact information, occupation, and trip details. Submitting incorrect information may cause delays in processing or even lead to visa denial.

Under normal circumstances, a Vietnam visa is processed within 3 – 5 working days. If the process takes longer, it typically indicates that your application requires additional verification by the Vietnam Immigration Department. If your travel time is not approaching, you may simply wait for standard processing to complete. However, if your departure is urgent, you will need to use a speed-up service, which can process the visa within 1–2 working days or even within 2–4 working hours.

3. Children need their own visa

If you are travelling with children under 14, ensure they have valid visas. Children with their own passports must apply for a separate visa and should not be included in the parents’ visa application.

4. Applicants cannot apply for a new visa while they are inside Vietnam

If your visa is about to expire, you must leave Vietnam and submit a new visa application from abroad. Applications filed while you are still inside Vietnam will not be accepted and will be denied.

How to speed up the e-visa process?

If Tunisian citizens are applying for a Vietnam e-visa for the first time, they may make mistakes that could delay the visa processing and potentially disrupt their travel plans.

If you encounter any issues with your visa application, you can use our visa speed-up service to have your visa processed within 1 working day, or even within a few hours in urgent situations. This service ensures that you can receive your visa on time and board your flight to Vietnam without delay.

Here are the detailed steps that Tunisian applicants should follow to speed up the Vietnam visa approval process:

1

Please go online at the Vietnam visa speed up to provide us with the visa registration number issued by the government visa portal, the email address that goes with the e-visa application and the selected entry port;

2

Make payment for the speed-up service fee. It doesn’t include the visa application fee that you paid through the government visa portal;

3

After the period of time you have registered for the service with us (2 working days, 1 working day, 4 working hours or 2 working hours), you will receive your e-visa.

What should you do if your e-visa contains mistakes?

If the Tunisian applicants apply for a Vietnam e-visa through the official government portal, it is essential to carefully review all information before submitting.

Any errors, such as a missing middle name, incorrect date of birth, wrong passport number, or inaccurate passport expiry date, will result in the granted visa being invalid.

Always review your details thoroughly to ensure your e-visa is approved correctly and accepted upon entry to Vietnam. If you discover that your granted Vietnam e-visa contains an error, you should immediately apply for a new e-visa to replace it – provided you still have enough time before your trip.

However, if your flight is approaching or you are already at the airport and unable to board due to the mistake, you can use our e-visa correction service. Our team will assist you in quickly updating your visa information so you can travel without delay.

What happens if the Tunisian citizens arrive in Vietnam without a visa?

Tunisian citizens are generally required to obtain a visa to enter Vietnam. If they arrive at a Vietnamese border without a visa, they will be denied entry, face potential deportation, and incur significant travel expenses at their own cost.
The specific outcomes and official policies for Tunisian travelers entering Vietnam without a visa include:

Boarding denial

Airlines strictly enforce Vietnam’s entry requirements. If a Tunisian citizen attempts to check in for a flight to Vietnam without an approved visa, the airline staff will prevent them from boarding the aircraft.

Refusal of entry at the border

If an Tunisian traveler somehow reaches a Vietnamese airport or land border without a valid visa, immigration officers will deny entry. They will be placed in a holding area or transit zone and be forced to purchase a return ticket to their departure country at their own expense.
Note: If the Tunisian citizens contact us at least 1 hour before landing at Vietnam airport, we can still help them get a valid Vietnam entry visa in time.

Deportation and blacklisting

In severe cases, such as attempting to bypass border controls, Tunisian travelers may face immediate deportation, detention, and a potential entry ban to Vietnam for the incoming trips.

Phu Quoc Island entry exception

There is an exception that the Tunisian citizens can visit Phu Quoc Island for up to 30 days without a visa. However, to qualify for this exemption, they must:

  • Arrive directly at Phu Quoc International Airport (e.g., from an international connecting hub) or by sea.
  • Hold a valid return flight ticket or onward travel ticket to another country from Phu Quoc Island, without visiting the Vietnam mainland.
  • Note: Traveling from mainland Vietnam to Phu Quoc still requires clearing domestic checkpoints and is generally not allowed without a Vietnam mainland entry visa.
