Why Vietnam e-visa amendments happen and how to fix it?

Applying for a Vietnam e-visa through the official government portal is generally straightforward, but applicants may occasionally be required to amend or update their visa application. Amendments are typically requested to ensure that the information provided matches the passport details, complies with Vietnam’s immigration requirements, and allows authorities to process the visa correctly. Understanding why amendments occur and how to fix them can save travellers time, money, and unnecessary delays.

Incorrect or incomplete personal information

One of the most common reasons for an amendment request is inaccurate personal data.
Vietnam Immigration strictly checks that all information on the e-visa application matches the traveller’s passport details.

Common errors include:

• Misspelt name or mismatched name order
• Incorrect date of birth
• Wrong passport number or expiration date
• Missing middle name

Any mismatch, even a minor one, can delay your application, result in denial, or require correction before approval.
In certain circumstances, it is beneficial when the Immigration Department detects errors and asks you to correct them before approving your visa. If those mistakes go unnoticed and the visa is approved with incorrect information, you may be denied boarding or refused entry into Vietnam.

Incorrect photos or unacceptable document uploads

Vietnam’s e-visa portal requires two types of images: a passport data page and a passport-size portrait photo, with strict requirements.
The system will automatically check the photo’s quality. If the passport images are taken at low resolution, the system cannot read the information on them, and the data may be extracted incorrectly.
Applications may need amendment if:

• Photos are blurry, cropped incorrectly, or taken at the wrong angle;
• The passport page is unclear or partially covered;
• The passport page photo was taken so close that it has missing information along the passport edges, and the ICAO line;
• Portrait photo taken with glasses, hat or bare shoulders;

Visa application made when the travellers are inside Vietnam

If your visa is about to expire, you must leave Vietnam and submit a new visa application from abroad. Applications filed while you are still in Vietnam will not be accepted, and an amendment will be required.

Sometimes, even if you have already left Vietnam, your Vietnam e-visa application is still pending with the status “You are currently staying in Vietnam. Therefore, you are requested to exit from Vietnam prior your resubmission documents”, which means that the system has detected that you are still recorded as being inside Vietnam. This often occurs when your previous exit record was not properly updated in the immigration database — commonly due to land or seaport exits.

In this case, please contact the Vietnam Immigration Department as soon as possible and provide a photo of the exit stamp in your passport to confirm that you have already left Vietnam. If you are unable to reach the Immigration Department directly, you can use a visa correction or clearance service to remove the mistaken “currently staying” status and resume your visa processing.

Once you receive the visa application amendment request from the Vietnam Immigration Department, you should immediately update it. In this case, the processing time will begin once the amendment is completed and resubmitted.
