Vietnam visa requirements for the Thai citizens

Vietnam visa requirements for the Thai citizens

The citizens of Thailand are exempted from a Vietnam visa for 30 days. However, travellers must ensure that their passport is valid for at least 6 months. In some instances, a return flight ticket may also be required to demonstrate intent to leave the country within 30 days.

Required documents

As Thai citizens don’t need a visa for Vietnam for a maximum stay of 30 days, travellers just need a valid passport and a round-trip air ticket to enter the country.

How to travel to Vietnam with a visa exemption?

If the Thai citizens plan to stay in Vietnam for less than 30 days, they just need to present a valid passport and a round-trip air ticket to board the plane. At entry points (airports, land ports or seaports), they will be required to present the necessary documents, once again at passport control upon entry into Vietnam.
If they stay longer than 30 days, a Vietnam visa is required.

The issues that the Thai travellers may encounter when entering Vietnam

Although Thai travellers are not required to obtain a visa to enter Vietnam, they may still encounter unforeseen issues. One common concern is that their passport validity is not long enough (the passport validity must be at least 6 months from the date of entry). Therefore, Thai visitors are strongly advised to check their passport’s expiration date to ensure it meets the entry requirements. In cases where the passport is valid for less than 6 months but more than 1 month from the date of exit, travellers may apply for a rush Vietnam e-visa, which can allow them to enter Vietnam safely.
A temporary passport will not be accepted for entry into Vietnam in any case.
