Vietnam electronic visa

From August 15, 2023 all the nationalities are eligible for Vietnam electronic visa (so called e-visa). The e-visa for Vietnam is valid for 3 months maximum with single or multiple entry. It is a completed visa issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department that can be applied online easily.

The Vietnam e-visa is a convenient way to obtain entry permission, which provides convenience for travelers planning to visit Vietnam. This digital visa system greatly simplifies the application process, allowing you to obtain entry permission without having to go to the embassy or consulate in person. The introduction of e-visa not only saves time and energy but also provides more flexibility for tourists.

How to apply for Vietnam e-visa?

Please go online and complete the visa application form and upload the photos of passport and portrait. The visa information must be exactly as it is displayed on the passport;

Make payment for the visa service fee using bank wiring transfer, credit cards, PayPal or other payment platforms. For a rush visa application, a payment via PayPal is prefered;

After 3 – 5 working days you will receive an e-visa via email. In emergency cases you can apply for a rush visa service to receive the visa in 2 working days, 1 working days, 4 working hours or even 2 working hours;

Note:
– The rush e-visa application should be submited before 8:00 AM Vietnam time to get the visa done at 12:00 PM at noon Vietnam time (4 working hours service) or 18:00 Vietnam time on the same day (1 working day service). Applications submitted after 17:00 PM Vietnam time will be processed on the following working day.
– The e-visa validity must be at least 30 days shorter than passport validity and doesn’t exeed 90 days.

How does Vietnam e-visa look like?

Vietnam e-visa is a document issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department via the government visa portal. It is a PDF file which can be easily printed out and bring with you during your trip in Vietnam.

How long does it take to complete an e-visa?

It will typical take 3 – 5 working days to complete an e-visa application. However, if your visa application is not correct or your photo does not meet the requirements of the Vietnam Immigration Department or you do not provide correct address that you will stay in Vietnam, your visa application will be denied and you may have to amend it several times then the processing time will be extended.
In order to avoid the lengthy process you should prepare quality photos of passport and portrait. You also need to fill in the form with correct information including your address in your country, the address you will stay in Vietnam and other required information.

Passport types that are not eligible for Vietnam e-visa

Here are some passport types that are not eligible for a Vietnam e-visa, according to the Vietnam Immigration Department instructions:

  • Temporary passport;
  • Emergency passport;
  • BNO (British National Overseas) passport;
  • Diplomatic passport used for diplomatic entry purposes;

How to speed up e-visa process?

If you have a pending e-visa application that was made on the previous days, we are able to speed it up to get it done faster.
In order to accelerate an e-visa process, please follow the steps below:

Go online at the speed up e-visa form to provide us with the visa registration number issued by the government visa portal, the email address that goes with the e-visa application and the selected entry port;

Make payment for the speed up service fee. It is doesn’t include the visa application fee that you paid through the government visa portal;

After the period of time you have registered for the service with us (2 working days, 1 working day, 4 working hours or 2 working hours) you will receive your e-visa;

Frequently asked questions

+When applying for Vietnam e-visa, do I need to include my middle name?

Yes, you need to provide your full name, including your surname, middle name, and given name, exactly as it appears on the ICAO line in your passport, using uppercase letters.

+Can I apply for an e-visa while I am in Vietnam?

Electronic visas are issued to foreigners who are staying outside of Vietnam, not applicable to foreigners currently residing in Vietnam. Therefore, you can only apply for Vietnam e-visa after departing and exiting Vietnam.

+How long should I apply for Vietnam e-visa in advance?

You should apply for a Vietnam e-visa at least 1-2 weeks in advance, but applying 2-3 weeks before is safer to account for potential delays. It is possible to apply up to one year in advance, which can reduce stress, especially during peak season or holidays.

+Is a M3 form (entry and exit form) required when entering with Vietnam e-visa?

No, when you enter Vietnam with an e-visa, you don’t have to complete the M3 form (entry and exit form). The M3 form applies only to travelers entering Vietnam with a visa on arrival.

+How can I check the e-visa application status?

You should regularly check your e-visa application status during the processing period by entering your visa application code (starting with ‘E’), the email address used in your application, and your date of birth in the search form on the official visa portal. Below are the most common statuses you may see when checking your Vietnam e-visa application:

  • Acceptance – Congratulations! Your e-visa has been approved.
  • Processing – Your application is currently under review. Please allow a few more working days for processing.
  • Unpaid – The visa fee payment was not successful. You will need to complete the payment to proceed with your application.
  • Amendment required – Additional information or corrections are needed. Please update the requested details as soon as possible to avoid delays.
