Legal basis of Vietnam e-visa

The primary legal bases for Vietnam’s e-visa system are the Law on Entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreigners (Law No. 23/2023/QH15) and Government Resolution No. 127/NQ-CP issued in August 2023. Resolution 127/NQ-CP expanded e-visa eligibility to citizens of all countries and territories and increased the validity period to a maximum of 90 days for single or multiple entries.

  • Law on Entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreigners (Law No. 23/2023/QH15): This is the overarching legislation that grants the authority to issue e-visas to foreigners. The provisions in this law establish eligibility criteria and potential grounds for entry denial.
  • Government Resolution No. 127/NQ-CP (August 14, 2023): This resolution is a key governmental act that expanded the e-visa system significantly. It authorized the issuance of e-visas to citizens from all countries and territories and extended the validity period to 90 days.
  • Official e-visa portal: The application is administered through the official e-visa website of the Vietnamese immigration department.
